Frequently asked questions

ArcGIS Online is sold through annual user type licenses that provide access to ArcGIS from anywhere, on any device. If your company does not already have an ArcGIS account, also known as an ArcGIS organization, you can purchase access to ArcGIS Online by buying a Creator, Professional, or Professional Plus user type. The initial cloud infrastructure required to start your ArcGIS Online organization is included and can be scaled based on your storage and compute needs.

ArcGIS Online is a software as a service. If you need a self-hosted deployment of ArcGIS, you can purchase ArcGIS Enterprise

A user type is an annual license and the primary means of accessing ArcGIS Online apps and capabilities. There are six different user types that align with typical ArcGIS Online workflows, including creating maps, conducting analysis, ensuring data quality, and making data-driven decisions. User types offer progressive permissions within ArcGIS Online, ranging from monitoring performance securely with the Viewer user type to executing advanced analytics and high-end cartography with the Professional Plus user type. Explore the user types.

User types are designed to support typical workflows that enable your organization to generate geospatial insights. With varying prices and levels of access, you can select user types based on your team's skills and needs, ensuring that the right tools are in the hands of the right people.

We recommend starting by determining which members of your team need to map, manage, and analyze data. In this case, you would need a Creator, Professional, or a Professional Plus user type. A key difference between these three user types is the license level of the included ArcGIS Pro software. The Creator user type includes a Basic license, providing core functionality. The Professional user type includes a Standard license, while the Professional Plus user type includes an Advanced license and ArcGIS Pro extension products. To learn more about the functionality supported by the ArcGIS Pro Standard and Advanced licenses, please review the ArcGIS Pro license levels.

Once you have identified the individuals in your organization who will be creating ArcGIS content and managing and analyzing data, you can assess who needs secure access to collaborate by utilizing the Mobile Worker user type, ensuring data quality as a Contributor, or making data-driven decisions as a Viewer.

Once you have purchased access to ArcGIS Online, by buying a Creator, Professional, or Professional Plus user type, you will be able to sign in to your ArcGIS Online account. An ArcGIS Online organization is a group of users from a company who can work together using ArcGIS apps and capabilities in a shared environment. After purchasing additional user types, you can then add your team to your organization from your ArcGIS account.

Please reference the invite and add members to your ArcGIS Online organization.

ArcGIS Online subscriptions offer the flexibility to grow with your needs. You can add more user types at any time.

You can add additional capabilities and apps to an existing user type license from the Esri Store.

An ArcGIS Online organization, also known as an organization, is a group of users from a company who can work together using ArcGIS apps and capabilities in a shared environment. The organization is managed by an administrator who oversees items within ArcGIS Online, the members who participate, user types, and permissions. An organization member with a Creator, Professional, or Professional Plus user type can be assigned the role of organization administrator.

No. Per the terms of our Master Agreement, each user type license must be used by a single person. Each team member must be assigned their own user type and user type licenses is not permitted.
